Locked down.

How to get from the OXO paperweight to something useful ?

The normal way to do things is through OMC where you can log on using the "Installer" user and start poking around.

Unfortunately, the installer password may have been changed when the approved/preferred Alcatel value added reseller did their stuff.

Fortunately, if the OXO is fitted with a HDD there is a way to temporarily change the Manufacturer password and reset all the password to the default ones, without having to wipe clean the OXO.

If you are running R7.1 pull out your HDD, connect it to a linux box (I use a cheap IDE to USB for that matter)

 - backup and replace the contents of /ramdsk_a on the first partition of the HDD by the contents of that tar file Unlocked Initrd

 - you may as well put that version of BusyBox in a directory of your own on the first partition. This version of busybox is binary compatible with the kernel of the OXO and supports vi as opposed to Alcatel's version.
Having vi comes handy when modifying the many passwd files you may find under /etc once the OXO is booted up.

If you are not running R7.1 and you want to regain full access to your OXO contact me with the current /ramdsk_a/initrd.gz so I can modify it for you.

OXO is Alcatel for paperweight.

I got an Alcatel OmniPCX Office at an auction for a fraction of the retail price but it came with a snag.

Technical information are rather scarce, software availability is low and is quite obscure to the  noob's eye.

Basic things.

- Alcatel OmniPCX Office is referred as OXO,
- PM5 or OMC are pieces of software used to manage & configure the OXO,
- R7.1 Firmware (versions are in the form Rx.x) is the Operating System of the OXO,
- Lola is the piece of software used to install the Firmware onto the OXO.

A good start :
